5 Signs You Are An Exceptional Leader

Do you know the signs of an exceptional leader? Using a scale ranging from mediocre to exceptional, how would you assess yourself? How would others assess you?

Consider this. You met your goals despite facing some serious challenges. You did not become frazzled when speed bumps surfaced (at least not in public). Instead, you delivered better than expected results.

Your boss said you did an impressive job. You corrected her by replying, thank you, but God was gracious, and He did an outstanding job through my team and me.

That is contrary to the usual, passionate, chest-pounding response of, thank you! It was difficult, but I’m glad I leveraged my skills to deliver these results! (Ahem; I remember when I learned to reply like that.)

Acknowledgment of the Grace of God is a practical sign that you may not be a normal but an exceptional leader.

Exceptional Leaders

Not all leaders deliver the desired results. Some will use fear, intimidation, or even coercion to get their results from others.

Exceptional leaders, however, will consistently deliver breakthrough results while leading from their heart. Their superpower is that they prioritize empowering their people to exceed expectations while developing them to be future leaders. These leaders are memorable to those they impact. They are also inspirational. When they speak, people listen. People follow exceptional leaders because they want to; not because they have to.

5 Signs You May Not Be A Normal (But an Exceptional) Leader

  1. You are humble.

You are not full of pride, bragging about all your accomplishments. It’s important, to unapologetically share your accomplishments at the appropriate time.  But it is more important to put it in context with your secret weapon – the Grace of God.

  1. You have faith in God.

Some leaders believe their successes are due to their skills, hard work, and luck. You have faith and know your successes are based on God’s Grace. And the best part? You only need a tiny bit of faith – a mustard seed size.

People follow who they trust.

  1. You are not afraid to show your vulnerabilities.

While others act as though they are perfect, you demonstrate you are only human. When you prudently acknowledge your vulnerabilities, it allows others to see you as being in touch with their reality. They will trust you even more. People follow who they trust.

  1. You do not take it personally.

You understand the battle is spiritual. The enemy is not your colleague. Not personalizing their attacks frees you up to strengthen your emotional intelligence and make rational choices. Your emotional response only empowers others.

  1. You do not bite back.

You swim in a competitive pond filled with hungry sharks. They bite hard to get ahead of you. The normal instinct is to bite back. Instead, you smile, walk with extraordinary peace, let your results and advocates do the talking, and let God fight for you. Give others a reason to ask why you are so different.

If the Hand of God guides you, you are an exceptional leader; or one in the making. It is empowering. Walk in your empowerment and let others see that in you.
