Are You Leading As Designed?

Leaders Designed to Glorify God
As a leader, are you leading as you were designed to lead? If you are not functioning as designed, it is hard to be an exceptional leader.

I was helping my wife pull weeds from her lush, blossoming garden. The weeds did not receive her tender loving touch but constantly outgrow the plants she spends so much time caring for. I commented that the weeds need to clear out from her garden. She overheard me and responded. “The weeds are fine. They are only growing as they were designed to do.” I suddenly fell back onto the moist grass, hit by a revelation. Am I leading as I was designed to lead?

Are you leading as you were designed to lead? If you are not functioning as designed, it is hard to be an exceptional leader.

You were designed to lead in a way that glorifies God from the lunchroom to the boardroom. The opportunities will come during your endless conference calls, quick hallway chats, or even during your presentations. Here are five of the many ways you can glorify God on the job and in so doing, lead as designed.

Five ways a leader can glorify God at work:

  1. Give appropriate recognition to God. Acknowledge him in all you do. Stand up for Me among the people you meet and the Son of Man will stand up for you.” (Luke 12:8, MSG).
  • Have the right priority. It is God who causes others to pour blessings on you in the form of pay raises and promotions. Seek God’s kingdom first and everything else will be added. (Matt 6:33).
  • Love others as He commanded. Take care of those in your responsibility with kindness. As Eph 6:9 tells us: “Masters, it’s the same for you. No abuse.” (MSG)
  • Show appreciation for God’s blessings. Give God thanks and praise for what He has done for you. The Bible encourages us to use our lips to offer sacrifices of praise to God. (Heb 13:15)
  • Be a light where you are. This is done by leading with your heart.  Let your light shine that others can see your actions and glorify God. (Matt 5:16).

Exceptional leaders do what they were designed to do: Glorify God.
