Empowered by Connection: Your Destiny Helper

Behind every successful person is a team. No one can be successful by themselves.
This team includes supporters and helpers such as mentors, sponsors, and a relationship most leaders do not consider – the partner.
That is a trusted person who helps with a job, assignment, or mission. Think of descriptions like companion, partner in crime, or sidekick.
There is an additional relationship we may have but not recognize. It’s a strategic relationship. It’s a Destiny Helper, someone who assists you with walking in your purpose or calling.
One of my sponsors, let’s call her Monique, saw that my loyalty to a business clouded my judgment concerning my plans.
Instead of giving me some harsh-reality speech, she gifted me a book, When God Says Go, by Elizabeth Laing Thompson.
That book strengthened my faith and cemented in my mind the door God was opening for me to walk in my personal mission. Monique was a Destiny Helper to me. Her simple action encouraged me along my passion.
What Are Destiny Helpers?
Destiny Helpers are relationships that specifically support us with our calling or personal mission.
That personal mission is our God-given gift, talent, and passion that brings true fulfillment while impacting the lives of others. The support could be in the form of advocacy, assistance, encouragement, or guidance towards our destiny.
These helpers could be long-term close relationships, professional relationships like sponsors, or total strangers who may enter our lives for a brief encounter and say or do something that places us on the right path.
The Importance of Destiny Helpers
It’s important to understand how critical Destiny Helpers are in our lives, especially if we desire to be on a personally fulfilling path that creates a rewarding legacy.
Here are a few examples of how Destiny Helpers support a personal mission.
- Offering guidance, such as helping to discover a true calling and how to live it.
- Opening doors. It was encouraging to hear a manager in one of my succession planning meetings advocate for an employee to be placed in a particular assignment because it’s something they are passionate about.
- Providing defense on someone’s behalf to protect their journey. It helps when someone is concerned enough to vouch for you or even stand in your defense concerning your personal mission. In Acts 9:26-27, Barnabas advocated for Paul when the disciples believed he still persecuted Jews.
Destiny Helpers are critical because they offer specific strategic help with our personal journey. That help can come in whatever form is needed.
How You Can Attract Destiny Helpers
Anyone can attract Destiny Helpers through a few simple actions.
- The first step is spiritual readiness. Pray and ask God to reveal your Destiny Helpers or send them into your life.
- Make yourself more coachable. Demonstrating a desire to learn, grow, and be open to feedback encourages others to provide support without feeling they are taking a risk.
- Demonstrate dedication and diligence. Everyone wants to be on the winning team. When you show dedication and diligence in what you do, it encourages others to help you in the things you are more passionate about. They may open doors or make connections with others for you that will help you walk in your destiny.
- Be aware and stay alert for the small moments when a stranger may encourage you along the path of your mission. Recognizing them allows you to intentionally embrace the moment and take advantage of the critical help.
You may have one or more Destiny Helpers and not even realize it. Recognizing them will help you be more intentional about the relationship, recognize them when they surface in your life, or seek them out.
Become a Destiny Helper
Coupled with recognizing the importance of Destiny Helpers is being a destiny helper to others.
In fact, every believer in Jesus Christ should consider themselves a Destiny Helper. How do you become one?
- Help others discover their personal mission.
- Use your gifts to benefit others. Our gifts and talents should be used to benefit others. That includes those needing help along their journey.
- Become a mentor or coach to someone. Many do not know they need help. Offer words of affirmation and encouragement.
- Show compassion to those in need. Be a listening ear and be ready to offer wisdom.
- Be ready to open doors to someone. It may be connecting them to others or using your influence to get them into a position where they can be catapulted along their journey.
Leaders should both seek and become Destiny Helpers. Becoming a Destiny Helper requires a desire to help others succeed in their life passions.
Destiny Helpers play a crucial role in personal and leadership growth. Therefore, leaders who desire to succeed in their personal mission must strategically include Destiny Helpers as part of their supporting team.
They can be friends, family, or strangers. They can be your manager, a coach, your pastor, or anyone you connect with along your journey that moves you closer to your personal mission.
And remember, success is not a one-way street. Impact someone else by being their Destiny Helper.
